my northern adventure...
back after 5 days with kat. was quite the experience... so actually manchester isn't all that north. but they still call it that. tom stays in heald green like half an hour out of manchester city i think... kat stays in chorley:
so anw. we left on thurs morning. got there abt 3... just hung around manchester city. really not all that exciting. bits of it are really really ugly... tom calls them "toilet tiling buildings". haha but the area that got bombed by the ira is now quitee fancy looking. with all those modern glass buildings and all. one thing you learn is to walk down the centre of paths.... cos there's always poo down the sides. haha!
night was supposed to go to an indie club (kooks, kaiser chiefs etc etc) would have been very cool if not for the fact that i didn't have valid id! it's poooo being in the uk cos i didn't bring my ic or drivers lisence. so i can't get into certain pubs or buy alcohol. will have to bring next year i guess. thankfully everyone was tired so i wasn't a party pooper. we decided to drive to wilmslow (which is a very posh area apparently. all the celebrities stay there. didn't look THAT amazing to me. was expecting beverley hills. haha) went for a pub quiz there. failed spectacularly. haha then decided to play pool. which i am horrible at. cons can i please go practise in your house in summer??
fri took the train to chorley... then drove to rivington. it's a really lovely big nature park around a reservoir. sort of macritchie (is that spelt right. it looks weird) like. weather was amazinggg! haha there's like a bikers gathering around there as well so you see all these old men in leather trousers and big silver earrings everywhere. very strange. then because the weather was too hot and we all deserve a treat, kat took us to.. FREDERICKS which is like the biggest ice-cream parlour in chorley. GELATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 0.0 hahah was so so so yummy. i had cookies and cream and orange choc chip. amazing. the weather was so hot my ice-cream was melting much too quickly. bliss :)
then... at night we had a chippy tea (say chippeh tey) - fish and chips for dinner. haha which is supposedly typical of the north. heehee they come wrapped in newspapers which i haven't had since i was a baby living in liverpool (which of course i don't remember but so my mummy tells me). so yummy. so oily. so damn much! i left half my chips unfinished which i felt absolutely horrible for.
we watched deal or no deal (cruel concept but oh so addictive!), gladiators (doesn't everyone remember this!!!) cory (coronation street. a typical northern soap opera). hahha sooo days of our lives. there was this one character who had the worst accent ever. when he came on screen, i had no idea what he was talking about for the whole 5min. kat's family is always terribly amused by my response to northern accents. then watched the holiday (i haven't watched so much tv in agesss!!!) they loved it. i didn't. i'm just so not a romantic movie person. it was stupid!! and boring. kate winslet was quite endearing i suppose. but jack black. EWWWW. cameron diaz was the same character she's played in every movie i've watched. and jude law. ayee i'm considering giving up jude law now. he looked horrid in the movie! such orangey fake tan! bleah. and somehow not charming at all. what happened to alfie! heartbroken.
haha kat has 2 gorgeous gorgeous cats - holly and nina. so adorable. they will hop onto your lap when you're watching tv.. close their eyes and purrrrrrrr when you give stroke them, lick your fingers when you stop, give you puss-in-boots eyes and mew the most heartmelting mews you've ever heard. I WANT A CATTTTT.
sat went out to southport. the beach!! lots and lots and lots of beach. and no sea! i'm serious. the tide was so far out. hot hot hot day again. went for a chinese buffet. was quite amazing really! i was quite impressed and i ate a hell lot. then played crazy golf and got a tan. yayy i got a hole in one. and it was at one of those tricky holes where you have to putt it right into the clown's mouth or something. heehee. i came in second.
that night. we had the funniest funniest funniest experience. kat's bf jamie owns this music recording studio so he knows all these up and coming bands. and he suggested taking me out to see a gig in wigan that night. unfortunately. it was DEATH METAL. omg. hahahha there we were hanging out in the pub, amongst black-clad youth smoking god-knows-what, feeling impossibly out of place. and then the music. omg the music. i thought linkin park was bad. linkin park is feather light metal. haha! the first band i thought was ghastly but then when the second band came on, i decided the first band was decent. haaha it was just like:
RAAAAAAAAAWWWWRRRR... YOU DIE YOU DIE RAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWRRRRR
RRRRAAAAWWWWRRR
funnily enough, nobody was really moshing. everyone was kind of just standing around. and i felt really bad for the band cos they were putting like so much into their performance and the audience was just standing there. it got a bit better for the second band. *growl* acral necrosis (no medics would be able to take that seriously. haha) the lead singer had to growl cos apparently he's got a really posh accent and so would not go down well with the northern folk. hahha they were a terrible band. everyone had really really long hair.. (band of cousin its) and they'd have their heads down playing the guitar like there's no tmr. so funny cos then you'd just see like shaggy hair and a guitar. and then after like 2min they would flip their hair (charlie's angels style) prob so that it didn't get caught in guitar strings. haha basically their performance was RAWWWRRR hair hair hair FLIP RAWWWWRRR hair hair hair flip. and then. the most amazing one in my opinion, the guitarist started swinging his head around so his hair flew out like a gigantic fan. omg. hahha and there was this one solo guy moshing in the audience and he was doing that too. for the greater part of the song. so funny. kat and i were laughing so hard. we decided to leave after the 2 bands cos apparently the next one was even heavier and the final one was the biggest death metal band in the north. no thank you. jamie intro-ed us to the band (see like how cool is it to be involved in the music industry?) and when they asked what we thought of the music, we said "horrible" and they looked very pleased with themselves. hahaha! then went to hang out in jamie's house. he and his brother are in a band and thank god the music they play is soo much better. his brother's got an amazing voice and the songs i've heard are really really good. so they've got my support! actually anything sounds good after death metal.
sunday went out to chester (old roman town) which really is nothing now that we've been to rome. haha they had the CIAK CIAK mann in that town! alex and i just looked at each other when we heard it and burst out laughing. was another glorious sunny day.. took a tour on the open top bus and then had a nice picnic lunch... didn't really do much that day just kind of walked around and then sat on benches and laughed at horny pigeons and obscenely fat ppl. was a good day :) her family took me out to p&p's for dinner that night. lovelyy. dime bar cheesecake to DIE FOR. x_X haha
that night we watched peter kay. who's a northern stand up comedian. as always, they wanted to see how i'd react to northern humour. hahha some bits were quite funny! other times it was just too tiring to follow his bolton accent. haha
so then the next day jamie drove us down to manchester and we went back to cam. and that was it! was awesome :)
omg i just realised how much i wrote. haha. photos to come soon hopefully.
