oh no. i forgot to post "interesting stuff--part 2". :( now i cant remember all the interesting stuff that happened during imcb attachment on day 2 and 3. well here's what i can remember.

1. sophocles was reciting this long list of airplane flying procedure or whatever after lunch on day 3. which i found very fascinating. pity i've got astigmatism or else i can join youth flying club..!

2. jin ngee the lab guy thinks that the weird pictures in the lifts are just "deranged artists' impression of what science is about".

3. we got back 45 min late from lunch at holland v on the last day. wouldnt have been so late if not for the lousy shuttle bus service which stopped by the time we got back to the bus stop. so we had to walk all the way back to imcb. :(

4. soul food robs your soul. the food is ex and it sucks! i waited like half an hour for my sliced fish hor fun and i broke a spoon. :( there was this scary china guy who complained that the food took too long to come. and he proceeded to throw the cutlery at the cashier and gave the third finger. finally, he said "shit" and walked off. pretty exciting stuff ah.

5. shishu's and my IF sample turned out to be "excellent" according to the lab lady. and our bench's TCA x ray thing was the sharpest! (i think.) cool.

and now it's back to doing work, work, and more work! :( i am totally clueless about chem spa (which happens to be TOMORROW. joy and jubilation!) and i havent done chem tut (which also happens to be due TOMORROW!) and competition's on wed and guess what, we've got physics spa on thurs! absolutely FABULOUS week ahead.

hello happy ppl all around. i hate school and i can't wait to go on my mini vacation to malaysia. anyway exciting things that have happened in the past 3 days:

1. nothing
2. absolutely nothing
3. oh i almost forgot... nothing!

first day at IMCB!

so i turned up super mega early at proteos today hoping to see at least one familiar face. unfortunately, i didnt manage to find anyone i might know and the rj people in my group turned up super mega late..! well at least they turned up.

we started off with a really loooooooooooooong talk on safety rules. then some guy came to introduce and promote IMCB and finally our mentor briefed us on the stuff we we were supposed to be doing for the next 3 days.

interesting stuff--part one:

1. imcb is obsessed with cells and crap. even the interior of the LIFTS have like pictures of weird proteins and stuff.
2. the food at imcb is not very nice :(
3. there's this overly enthusiastic acjc-mgs girl who makes funny sounds during the most inappropriate times.
4. the rj people in my group are quite nice after all. i can actually make new friends! i'll survive.
5. biopolis reminds me of the rjc campus at bishan. too empty and lifeless.
6. NEVER pursue a career in research work. you'll probably spend half of your life waiting around with nothing to do.
7. i somehow managed to get paired up with shishu while the others paired up with people from other schools. which is a good thing!

well this is the first training this year that i've come back from feeling shitty and lousy :( :( my thighs are aching once again and oh yeah: WELCOME BACK HORRID TAN! the sun fried steamed and charred. i hate it. only my batting was decent today. didn't get to field anything except balls rolling like snails after being deflected. yay.

school actually wasn't too bad today even though birdie bird bird left me alone. yeah but cos i'm feeling crabby i can't write about anything really fun now. 2.4 in the sun was not nice at all. i managed to do 5 inclined pull-ups (how the hell do i do 17??) and jumped fairly ok. and i finally had a nice nice talk with shuching... i think we haven't actually had a proper sit-down since last year. oh that sounds so sad!

on a 'happier' note, my happy bruise is slowly taking its leave. it was big, it was ugly and it was pink, green and blue. now it's still big and ugly but it looks a bit lighter. and it seems to be clearing up from the middle. fascinating.

ugh ugh ugh i'm hating my life right now. first bout of depression of the year.

things to do tonight:
1. moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
2. deep heat aplenty on them thighs
3. call bird to find out how exciting her day was
4. need chocolate :(

btw YMW, not everyone lives in ghim moh and can wake up at 820 am to go to biopolis! SOME people who live at serangoon have to wake up damn early cos it takes a million years to get to buona vista..!! haha. i'm not sure if i should be looking forward to imcb attachment. i so cant survive another THREE days without ymw! :( and like 3/5 of the people in my group are from the same class so that leaves me and...?!

today was a long day. went to ps for lunch with sarabird only to find that ajisen ramen opens at 1130 am. so we ended up at one of our favourite haunts (yoshinoya) eating our usual favourite food. then we went to heartland mall to buy the JAY CHOU LIVE CD (highlight of the day!!). btw, wafer from PRIMA DELI is heavenly! and the tutu cake at outram too.

nice things that happened today:

1.cca crap is finally -almost- settled..! hooray!
2.jay chou cd!! AND A HUGE POSTER CALENDAR! i wonder if i'm the only one who thinks that jay chou is hot.
3.i got a cd for SEVEN BUCKS! NOT PIRATED!

finished my stanford essay. it's distinctly average i reckon. oh well who am i kidding? how am i supposed to compete against the likes of carsandmoney and arty-farty jireh types? never mind. i'll go visit stanford some other time.

well imcb wasn't that boring after all. i mean the experiments were obviously. database mapping was awful! but it was a nice 3 days spent away from school, waking up at 820 and meeting lots of nice people. so you don't have to worry bird. even brainiacs are nice to hang out with! haha unfortunately i think i looked quite bad in the group photo. no surprises. eeps coach said i've put on weight (which is a good thing) but he told me to be careful of getting a double chin. right. you're supposed to massage it upwards when you wash your face so that the muscles won't start to sag. i'm totally paranoid now so i keep doing it whether i'm washing my face or not. i mean how disgusting can that be?? a double chin when you're 18? oh gross i don't want that. haha and btw bird, you CAN get sunburnt after one hour in the sun. which is why i tried applying sunblock for pe last year only to receive incredulous looks all around. be more sensitive!!! nobody wants to be chowtah. sigh.

softball tryouts (girls only!!) on mon 24jan at 515 at ri field. it's going to be FUNNNNNN!

i'm surviving..!

1. i think hanging out with wang yang and yi jing is way cooler than talking to ymw. i shall ditch ymw and start hanging out with other nicer people.

2. pe has been quite fun these 2 days. played basketball and took height and weight. ymw must be quite sad that she didnt miss any horrible fitness session.

3. too many people are taking chem s. maybe i should switch to math. which i obviously like better but mr tay meng kiat doesnt seem to think that math s is nice to do. :(

4. 100++ j1s signed up for touch rug. -!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- exciting. training would be so fun!

5. it's quite fun playing touch rug with guys. they are faster. also, kevin wants to join touch rug..!?

6. i wonder if the charissa ymw is talking about is CHARISSA TANG. cos that's my junior.

7. sarabird likes me. I KNOW IT.

8. i dont understand why anyone can get sunburnt after being in the sun for just an hour.

9. ymw does not look like an african la. she's not THAT dark.

10. my good friend jireh is very scary! he reminds me of hossan leong.

11. if ymw finds her attachment boring, i cant imagine how terribly uninteresting "Cell Cycle Regulation in the Budding Yeast S. cerevisiae" will be.

day 2

haha the thing jireh wrote about his stanford experiences is really really funny. but reading it just confirmed the fact that i'll never win the damn competition :(

well day 2 was not much better than yesterday. haha not-very-nice guy was better today. i'll give hime 3 niceness points: 1 for taking the initiative and saying hello and good morning to me. 2 for striking up conversation about low chor meng's biceps and 3 for offering me his seat. but i'll take one point away cos yesterday he was quite mean! our mentor was teaching us some stuff about the lacZ gene so he asked whether we've learnt about that. so i said er no. (for the benefit of the rg girls in the bench. really! ok and also cos i can't remember what ariff chan taught us) and when i said that, not-very-nice guy threw me a positively dirty look and asked in the most patronizing tone: do you take bio? ouch. that really hurt. oh well. but i'll forgive him since he was nice to me today. so we're all good. haha i actually quite like hanging out with everyone at the attachment except for the charmer. he's called david by the way and most unfortunately speaks a lot like marlom. (unfortunate for marlom) yikes. yeah but it's cool talking to everyone except when they start calling me an african cos of my skin colour (and season hasn't even started!) hmm and i walked all the way home from biopolis :( :( :( it took about 35 min... jaywalking down a large road, past the oh-so-familiar red house and stinky white house. ugh bad memories of walking home. and i didn't meet the ice cream man.

i can just tell everyone is dying to find out how my first day at freaks-united-imcb went. but first... a few things to address:

4. just thought i'd say hi to lava hot sarabird. hahahahahhaha
5. why do ppl think i've got mixed blood? don't my tiny eyes and er, used-to-be-black hair scream: i'm chinese through and through? [the only type of mixed blood i've got is hainanese-cantonese-hokkien]

ok and now. imcb...
well i was actually early this time. most unlike jobshadowing during the holidays. 5 of us from rj. me, cindy, derek, edwin and gabriel. (eee why does everyone have english names??) and after today i have come to the conclusion that 3/4 of them are nice. the last person still has 2 more days to make a good impression so i'm waiting! we started off with a safety briefing which reassured me that i was right when i crossed lab work off my future careers list. then off to the lab where we got paired off with ppl from other schools. my partner's charissa from rg who unfortunately reminds me a bit of mdm teng's daughter. but she's really nice. the morning was then spent pipetting stuff out of tubes into other tubes, feeling stupid next to overzealous guys on my right and worrying about the growling from my stomach. what fun. the guys finished their expts early and so left for lunch without me and cindy. charming. [oh i almost forgot about the weird dunman guy who thought he was so incredibly charming and suave and felt that all the girls in the lab should be falling all over themselves just to get a piece of him. seriously, get a life. i don't think any guy except lava hot jude law could get away with that.]

hmmm so without lunch dates we hung out with the rg girls. lunch at holland v. they're so so funny! and one of them has like the cutest smile ever.... after a 2 hour lunch break, we went back to continue an intensive session of pipetting and waiting. i can just see how fulfilling lab work is already.

well i'm sorry this entry is so boring. but i think it an apt representation of my day...... and one last thing (i can't quite call it a joke) our mentor told us today:

we just met our junior class today. interesting observations: benny the bandage guy!, a certain rgs girl who behaves like a second XXX, very few china scholars compared to our class. and i dont know what to write to my mortal :( oh no yingmeiwong has turned me into an unfriendly freak.

talking about classes, our class is really quite sad. i have such a pathetic life. and ymw is not helping cos she's absenting herself from school all the time!!!! delinquent.

i must stop holding my phone in my hand when i'm not using it. it has like way too many scratches. i really think it'll just break apart if i drop it another time.

wow looking at our counter seems like we have lots of visitors at our blog! as boring as it is. so let me begin another boring entry to satisfy all of you...

the school is gonna let me take leave after june hols!! yay yay yay... my sister is graduating from uni and i'm going to attend that. i think. cos i'll be missing common tests and mr stephen chin (i always think of steve chia when i think of his name) says i won't get a progress report. darn. so i'll think about that.

then we had senior class junior class thing. our junior class looks so normal compared to us. oh gosh i hope they don't think we're complete freaks. and bird and i made a most startling discovery that sarah ong actually reminds us of XXX in our class. hmmm. no offence to yijing and lilian who planned the game but i really hate playing 'ice-breakers' like that. and i probably made a junior feel so hurt because i completely forgot her name and she was sitting next to me! oh horror.......... but oh well. and i hate sitting around school in skirts cos then you get these horrid great white patches on your skirt and it looks so so dreadful..... i hope it doesn't make your ass look bigger cos i heard if you wear jeans with lighter colours on the butt area it makes you look like j.lo (oops she wants to be known as jennifer lopez now)

so the rest of the day went ok except compre was so damn difficult due to my poor gp skills and mr tay was kind of pissed with our class. physics prac was so stupid with limcheeli and marlom. marlom has the funniest facial expressions--- i was laughing so hard! then training. me, xuan and cons were so early waiting around for ppl who didn't turn up... so we decided to have a softball table! cutting out paper softballs and pasting them around cos we were so bored. i wonder how that'll work out... will the softball table instill as much fear as the ruggers' table?? only time will tell.... oh and jasho did a really good job with the 'softball advertisement'. i will keep one as a souvenir.

and i really like spending time with cons! drawing stupid softballs, running to the rg staff room cos we were scared of the dark and chatting on the way home. sigh and did i mention i have another twin? yup. this one is a GUY. yucks... my hc friend just smsed and said she saw the softballer who looks like me. unfortunately many people have agreed in this case (oh crap math lecturer) weep. it's no fun having a guy look like you or vice versa :(

well as sara said we went to get our nyaa booklets from goodfriend at raffles place. and as we were walking out of the mrt i suddenly heard "bird! bird...!!" and then we saw siok. fancy meeting her at the weirdest possible place. among office buildings! of all places. then we went for our feast. i really like little dragon buns now. especially the soup in them. must go eat at din tai feng again. there's one at junction 8! yay.

had training and friendlies at singapore poly today.. we havent played a proper game in ages. but sp is so damn far away at dover. and now training's on mon and thurs which means exercising every day except friday!

i'm determined to survive next week without ymw.

training started this week... so fun!!! seriously there's no stress now and now i feel so psyched up about it :) our j1s joined in training and i actually find it a lot of fun hanging out with them. they're so funny! and jeez they think certain ppl are cute... eeeee. haha we're trying to get everyone in the team to be psyched up too... we got kuen kuen (i still think it sounds/looks weird) a nice cake on monday for a super belated birthday and we're trying to meet up for lunch on wednesdays. although that pretty much crashed and burned today cos we kept waiting for ppl and obviously everyone hates canteen food. but we're getting there! monday training at ri was a bit... crowded. hmmm didn't get to do much. today was at rgs. the field is so reduced in size. but i liked training today cos we wore slacks so my legs didn't get too chowtah (unfortunately i can't say the same for my poor arms), i think my batting wasn't too bad, my throw rocked today (excuse the occasional overthrow) and catching is getting so much better now that jasho's pitching is so damn power! yup wow i sound so happy. but of course there's plenty to complain about... it's so difficult to get to rgs (so we'll charter a bus soon enough), the sun was way too hot, i didn't get to do too much fielding cos of mdm teng and i got hit in the back by fadz's pitching :( :( oww oww. but there's no bruise now. thankfully. anyway i'm going to miss cca fest cos of imcb attachment. hooray! and we're gonna have clinic and tryouts on monday 24jan at the ri field so if you know any j1s who desperately want to join softball let them know! everyone is welcome. no background knowledge required... just lots of enthusiasm and be fearless of the sun!

hmmm one thing that really bugs me is how sad our class is. nobody really mixes around. so me and bird just hang out with each other most of the time :( we're so gonna die once our imcb attachments start. i wonder what i'll do. i don't want to be a complete loner and bum around on my own. oh the horror. another thing that really gets me is the appalling state of food in school. seriously why can't they have nicer food when they charge more now?? even the cooked food uncle has stopped selling his 'grill chicken' which was the only reason why i continued to eat at the stall. i don't really like malay food and i've definitely had enough of indian for a while. the only thing i'm looking forward to now is that kenneth said the 'vegetarian stall' isn't vegetarian anymore. er ok. salvation! i can't stand mock meat. so maybe i can try that some time. i think i'll bring some lovely kueh lapis to school to eat tmr. yum yum. btw my 'lookalike' SO does NOT look like me. tons of ppl have verified that. so there.

it seems that the "random stuff" method of blogging is quite useful.

1. gp tutor scares me.

3. i must've been ignoring people i'm supposed to know. must stop staring into space.
4. why the hell are there triple lecture days?!
5. not good to allow use of the track. too much running is bad for health. especially if we have consecutive killer pe days.
6. the school is too big. i hardly meet anyone else except yingmeiwong.

8. bishan is an excellent location. travelling time is reduced to 10 min now! or 15 if i take 156/53.

yay the first week of school is finally over! it's been pretty eventful i suppose... random stuff:

-i ran 10 freaking rounds during pe this week. i've never run so much in my life :(
-i didn't get lost in school after all.
-managed to give benny lee a poor impression of me by not bringing my electric field tutorial and desperately needing to go to the toilet during his lesson.
-mr low says ok alright way too many times to be healthy
-we had lunch at the crematorium which really isn't as great as everyone makes it out to be.
-bird and i kind of got trapped in the lift for a short while.
-our classroom is conveniently next to the toilet
-i hate triple-lecture mondays and thursdays
-i love zero-lecture fridays!
-mr low actually believed jianhong was an avid swimmer
-i take about 50 minutes to get home on crappy 156.
-i hate school food :( :(
-i thought the man was telling me my plate was 'dirty' when he was trying to tell me i ate from stall '13'. hence incredibly puzzled expression.
-i don't really like the idea of training on saturday... but then i get to go home early on friday.
-i met the nice ice-cream man on my way home today
-we've got so much homework and it's only the first week of school!!
