OOOooOOoooOOooooOooooOOOoooooooOOooOOooOoooO
x men last night was quite cool eh? haha a lot of ppl were telling me it wasn't as good as the last 2 blah blah blah but it was still nice what. at least i wasn't fidgeting around the whole time like in da vinci code! granted all the gasp-he/she-died and gasp-he/she-lost-his/her-powers was no surprise to me :( ooh but when you have the ABSOLUTELY brilliant ian mckellen in any of your shows, no spoilers will turn me off! i suddenly want to dig up all the old tv shows and movies he was in to watch! he was macbeth in macbeth and hamlet in hamlet! ohhh i just realised that there's supposed to be a spinoff x men movie called "magneto" coming out in a couple of years. anyway the movie was v enjoyable!

haha i guess last night's good company contributed in some weird way. yes it was the 4 of us, the original nuh (say "n-uh") group aye that will be disbanding soon enough :( haha i can't remember why i was constantly laughing so hard, but i suspect it must be something to do with jasMEAn. hurhur shihui came running down to meet us in her mega high heels cos she escaped from kfc with the last 3 bandito pockets. THE cathay is so pok now cos there's absolutely nothing there except starbucks, ben&jerry's and a waxing studio. hmmmm. so, like tramps, we had to sit outside and have our dinner. yay erin and shihui so nice, they shared whipped potato with me! I AM THE POTATO MONSTERRR. and then we had a brief fight abt what type of popcorn to get cos jasho and i are conventional and don't like to be "surprised" by salty popcorn. but then i realised their sweet popcorn is too sweet and (darn it!) i am now veering towards salty popcorn. so we just sat around and talked after that. about people. and uni... aye i think it's scary that in a few years, quite a few of us will be authorised to stick catheters (hmm is that how you spell it?) into other people.

i have decided.

NUS Medicine. that's it. enough of moping and worrying and thinking and crying (i know, how silly i must seem.), it's settled. today i sent an email to A*STAR, but before that, being the kiasu berger i am (haha, ymw will know.), i made sure i accepted NUS med first. i've thought long and hard about it, and i think the desire to do medicine is greater than that to go overseas (LONDON CAN?!). i guess i was temporarily distracted by the prospect of going overseas on a fully govt funded education (plus alot of allowance and oh, the IDEA OF WEARING WINTER CLOTHES! i love winter wear. and boots and hats and coats....) i think, i'd actually made my decision long ago, but i was just insecure and afraid and reluctant to give up a chance to go to london (!!!!!). A*STAR is definitely good and it offers such attractive opportunities.. but no, i dont think research is for me. i guess the decision would've been much easier if i wasnt so bent on going overseas, but i'm glad i've sorted things out now and it's a huge load off my mind. i have not given up on an overseas education though, and there's still the option of doing post grad somewhere else. :) NUS med is not too bad la, it makes sense to stay here since i plan to practise here anyway and i dont have enough funds to go UCL.

plus today i read something in my email which i believe gave me some assurance. i guess it's God's answer to me, after a very very very long time. and people tell me they knew i'd choose med, even though it took quite awhile. so yes, this is it.

thank you all for putting up with all my whining the past few weeks.. i believe i've been such a "silly pokhead" (according to lizhen).

-----------------------------------------------------

so tauhuay selling is over! it was fun stuff la, although tiring and all, but we now have some funds for our laos trip and it was all worth it :) singaporeans can be quite ridiculous and some even go to expo EVERYDAY just to look out for cheap buys. ok la, maybe they stay near there. anyway, something good that happened on saturday--i got like books (FINALLY!) from the MPH book sale!! oooooh agatha christie, i like. and some other senseless thrillers and "blink". yay yay yayyyyy.

-----------------------------------------------------

today i went out with mak to shop!! and i bought quite alot of stuff. aiya, i felt sad and i needed stuff to cheer me up! heh. so far we've covered far east to wisma. we shall conquer taka and bugis soon. i found my flood length jeans at topshop going for 69 bucks and i just had to buy it! finally mine, after so long. muahahahaha. and we got like a whole set of matching stuff from top to toe (except shoes la). i sure hope we dont wear the same stuff on the same day. mak brought me to this cool section in far east which i never knew existed and we found some really pretty earrings there. and cute shoes! really, the cutest shoes on earth. handmade and so pretty. didnt get any in the end cos i was really broke but i will go back to check out new stock! far east like the best place to shop. some parts of it.

we walked for like 5+ hours and we finally ended up at topshop. we saw dawn yang (yes, THAT blogger) and jayme ong (is that how you spell it i cant remember if its jamie or jayme)! not hanging out together la, it was just a coincidence that they happened to appear at the same place simultaneously. surprisingly, jayme ong is shorter than me. (gasp!) but still hot nonetheless. and dawn yang is so scrawny i think she'll fly if the wind blew.

SARABIRD!!!! X-MEN III!!!!! hurry up come back lehhhh. i miss you :(

aiyah actually there's nothing v interesting to say right.

today went for trng from 730 to 1230 :'( sauteed in the sun!! i'm pretty sure the sunblock didn't hold. but it was quite fun lar... aiyah all the juniors told me all the spoilers for x mennnnnn! i'm so sad.

them: eh you know who died?
me: no... don't say i'm going to watch tonight!
them: omg i can't believe XXX and XX died! yah me neither! i liked XXX....
me: no no no! don't say anymore!
them: eh then XXXX lost her powers somemore!
me: noooooooo!!!!
them: wah then there was one stark naked scene!

ok. timeout everyone. time to start batting practice.
aiyahhhh no fun anymore. oh wells. i'll still enjoy the movie cos i like mystique and wolverine. although he's a bit too hairy for my liking. actually my favourite mutant on the cartoon was gambit though i can't remember what his powers were. i just thought he was cool. hurhurhur.

ooh i'm getting quite hooked on kaiser chiefs! but my sister says they are gross. hmms i think my taste in music is getting a bit warped. somebody told me the killers, which i like quite a bit, sound too murderous. haha but at least more exciting than norah jones. haha that time i went with my dad to uk for interview, we forgot to bring a cd to put in the car., so we bought norah jones cos it was like really really cheap. bad choice. we were driving at night and she almost put us to sleep!

how to lose weight according to Sally Kravich (Harper's Bazaar)

1000 calories a day fresh fruit and vegetable diet for up to a week. that means no grain (noooooo!), dairy or protein (NOOOOO!!!)

breakfast
one cup of 3 types of fruit [avoid bananas which are starchy :( ] and a cup of hot water with lemon [add ginger (ewwww!) to clear sinuses and, if desired, a natural sweetener like stevia or honey]

lunch
a large salad with lettuce, celery, cucumber, tomato, a quarter of an avocado, olive oil, lemon and garlic powder. avoid nuts and legumes [such as dried beans and lentils], which contain protein and starch

snack
one or two pieces of fruit. feeling lethargic? take 1000 mcg of vitamin B or add Emer'gen-C to water

dinner
vegetable soup with celery, parsley, onion, garlic, parsnip zucchini and any other vegetables besides corn and potatoes :(. cook as you would a stew, in an organic vegetable broth. make a whole batch that you can store and eat throughout the week. (omgg vegetable stew for the whole week???)

beverage
flat water only (what no sparkling??) as carbonation can lead to bloating. you may (may?) have one cup of coffee so long as you don't add dairy to it.

i don't know abt you, but i'm pretty sure i'd pile on the pounds after such a diet. steak and potatoes would probably look like HEAVEN.

thurs i meet the taitai gang again.

we went shoppingggg!
our first stop was OGILVY which is this fancy-pants giant boutique. kind of like harrods without krispy kremes. so it was all seriously high fashion stuff. !!!!!!!!!
hugo boss. droooooooool
burberry. drooooooool
michael kors. droooool
marc jacobs. drooooool
christian dior. drooooooooooooool
haha i had a lot of fun trying on outfits and shoes i will never be able to afford. oooh i love the burberry raincoat that kate moss wears in the ad. but. it was canadian 1350. so with taxes, convert to sing i reckon it's almost a S$2500 coat?? i will prob settle for cheap runway imitations.

more tulips about town!

lunch we went to a really cool modern-ish bistro. rosalie. the decor is very modern but airy. the food was quite ex but nice. i had lobster!!!! but the real reason i think this restaurant is so popular (esp the overwhelming number of male patrons) is the very very hot staff! haha all the waitresses and waiters are really good-looking. the waitresses wear either skin tight beige mini-dresses or super super low-cut pink dresses. with minimum 4inch heels i think. the waiters only button their shirts halfway up their chests! haha a very provocative dining experience i suppose. heehee it must be good to have a job there cos then you know you ARE hot enough.

after lunch, i decided to continue shopping on my own since the other ladies wanted to see dunno what expensive boutique. it was quite fun wandering about on my own! besides a slightly creepy encounter that could rival the ah-beng-biker and let's ntu PRESSURE cooker. heeheehee. i found it quite funny how each time you enter a shop, the salesgirls will practically run up to you and say 'bonjour!'. and they're v friendly too, one of them asked me where i got my earrings from, another one started chatting to me about spore and another one was saying how my shoe choices were similar to hers. haahahhaha. so solitary shopping in a foreign country is not as intimidating as i would have expected.

that evening there was a special concert in the notre-dame by the mcgill string orchestra.they were playing mozart. very grand! except... it was held at 6pm so i kept pinching myself to stay awake. luckily i noticed that a lot of other people around me were nodding about. dinner that night in 'le piment rouge'. chosen by my dad's american friends who didn't realise it was a chinese restaurant. yes chinese food again :S oh well. it was yummy! i love chinese food in angmoh countries cos they always give you fortune cookies at the end of the meal! mine said something lame like "the key to the future is in the past". errrrr.

next day visted st joseph's oratory.gorgeous! nothing very exciting happened. we left in the afternoon and arrived home on sunday!

:):):):):):):):):) i think i know my decision already. oh well. but but but but.............

wed. my dad goes for his conference so i hang out with the taitai gang. uber cool.

this is the conference hall. very un-dowdy right? it's really nice when the sun shines through the panels in the day!

anyway the taitai gang. i felt quite stressed when i was going to meet them cos well... they are rich and i'm not. there were 5 of them and amongst them they had: gucci, lv, chanel and ferragamo bags, chanel walking shoes, ferragamo sunglasses, fendi sunglasses, burberry coat, tiffany & co. jewellery and i'm almost certain bvlgari earrings. needless to say i felt like a tramp. we met for lunch at 11 at a lovely french bistro called pier gabriel for lunch. we sat outside cos the weather was wonderful. it was the strangest feeling cos the sun was shining hot on my face but the chilly wind was blowing on the back of my neck :S i had potato (!) soup and fresh pasta. [shuching would love it cos it was FULL OF CHEESE. i actually liked it!] everyone drank diet coke but me. being ladies of the earth, we visited the botanical gardens that afternoon.it was next to the stade olympique. [i think that's how you spell it] but none of them wanted to see it. they're avid gardeners you see. i'm really not much of a plant person but it was actually rather nice. the kind of place to spend a leisurely afternoon in. having a picnic... or lying on the grass. wonderful! haha but then the weather got so hot my nose actually burnt! haha the ladies were all very sweet so i had a good time with them! ahhh if i ever live in a temperate climate i'm going to have a massive tulip garden. they are the prettiest flowers ever!my favourite!

in the giftshop they sold little potted venus fly traps dirt cheap (no pun intended) and i really wanted to get one but i wasn't sure whether you can bring living plants into spore.

got back to the hotel and waited for my dad to go for dinner. i almost fell asleep! 6pm was always when i felt the sleepiest in canada. luckily tv at that time is good. there's malcolm in the middle, the simpsons, family guy (omg it's soooo funny), friends and sex and the city reruns. haha thankfully they weren't in french.

that night we visited 唐人街. chinatown!haha i know we really shouldn't but every city we go to, we MUST visit chinatown. eeeee chinatown there is so... dingy. we had vietnamese noodles for dinner. then walked around the area after that. actually there isn't very much to see in montreal... unless you are super duper arty-farty cos they have lots of art museums and galleries. we were gonna visit the casino but i forgot why we scrapped that idea.

hmmm i'm going to blog my trip in installments since i've really got too much to say. would prob bore too many of you but it's just for me to remember. i guess this will be kind of like gan's usual blog entries. TOO MANY WORDS! haha

overall the trip was great. weather was wonderful. just pack a top and a light sweater with jeans or maybe a skirt with boots/tights. we were kind of lucky cos it only rained the day we left. montreal is incredibly french. most ppl there speak average english and fluent french. but easy to get around of course since they have to deal with the influx of american tourists. i reckon the best time to visit would be some time in june/july... cos the famous laugh festival (just for laughs) is open, the massive amusement park is as well and all the flowers would be in full bloom. of course it might be too hot.

so we left on... monday morning. flight to newark (say "new work") was 18hours. it was surprisingly a very comfortable flight. i was in executive economy which is pretty nice. oh this was on the airbus so i was very excited to see the standing room area where you can have snacks and mingle with the other passengers. but i was disappointed. the area is tiny! max for 6ppl but i reckon that would be a squeeze. we arrived abt 5pm (ny time), then connecting flight to montreal was abt an hour. i should have gotten a hint of how french-y montreal really is since all the announcements on the plane were made in french, then english. our hotel was the intercontinental, which is in old montreal. very nice! i had a HUGE double bed to myself. the bed was strangely very high, so in order to sit on it, i had to practically leap onto the bed. most inconvenient. was also rather upset to find out that la ronde amusement park wasn't open yet :( :( :( :( :(

tues. my dad and i did sightseeing! first we went to see the famous notre-dame basilica.

it's the most famous church in canada i think. anyway our guide was proudly telling us that celine dion and numerous other hockey players whom i don't know (you know how canadians love their hockey) were married here. then we walked around old montreal. it is so lovely! heh i was very scared there would be those just-for-laugh-gags ppl around. i'm sure i saw that old lady! also visited the Pointe-à-Callière (archaelogy museum) which to me was quite a bore. then we walked through the underground city! it is really quite confusing. we got lost several times. definitely not recommended if the weather is nice enough to walk above ground. dinner with my dad's friends was at les remparts, a very nice small french restaurant. the food was really good. i had onion soup, seared snapper with some yummy potato (!) thing and this unbelievable banana and chocolate dessert. with french wine of course! oh and if you recall our waiter looked like adam brody! :D

i'm bored of blogging.

meeting up with friends week!

i love meeting up with people. cos we always end up eating. alot. REALLY ALOT.

met up with vanness yesterday for sakae sushi buffet at wheelock! and we did abit of shopping too.. i got a nice giordano bottom. it says like 'cotton satin' and i like how it sounds! hahahahaaaa and it looks nice too.. hopefully. i always end up buying things which only look nice the first time i try them. :( anyway, so we were walking to wheelock from orchard mrt in the underpass and guess what?? WE MET UTT! utt is so cute. but i didnt dare to ask him for a picture. so we continued walking to wheelock. and then while stuffing ourselves silly with sushi and chawanmushi (THREE BOWLS EACH LA. how many eggs would tt be?), we saw utt and his friend walking out of sakae sushi towards the counter!! but we didnt even notice him walking in and we were pretty sure we reached before he reached. hahaahaaaa ok so that was something interesting. vanness is very fun to hang out with cos she's nuts. just look at the picture..!

then i met up with mak today! finally after like a thousand years. but we decided we couldnt shop yet cos the great singapore sale is not here yet. a few more weeks. must. be. patient. so we ate at crystal jade express and then walked around trying to look for mothers' day presents. we finally found bags for our mums from the big area at the basement of taka cos they were having some bags and shoes sale thing! and i finally found a nice big brown belt. which i've wanted to get since forever cos brown is such a nice colour! it's so funny how i always tell my mum to stop buying bags cos she has too many (and she doesnt want to use them cos she cant bear to..!) but in the end, i get a bag for her. oh well. women will never have enough bags and shoes and clothes.

after awhile we went to bakerzin to eat desert! (oh no growing fat eating too much must cut down must get well soon so that i can exercise must stop eating!!) mak ate some cheesecake (yuck cheese is not nice!) while i tried the warm chocolate cake thing with vanilla ice cream which reminded me of the one in the laos hotel! but the laos one was nicer i think. the one i was eating today collapsed halfway and all the chocolate oozed everywhere on the plate and i dislike it when the plate gets messy cos i'm such a neat freak. and i found a funny thing which looked like a rubberband (....!!!) in the chocolate cake but it was, as mak found out, a mashed piece of lemon. the next time i go there i must try the chocolate eclair cos it looked SO NICE AND YUMMY and it sold out real quickly!

mak is going to UCL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH. ARGH. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. i hate it tt medicine is so freaking ex.

in montreal

montreal has been good fun so far! the weather is just PERFECT! lovely lovely lovely. shall not elaborate much now since i'm going to sleep soon.

montreal is 12 hours behind singapore. hmmm surprisingly no jet lag yet.

anyway i just got back from a most fantastic meal at a yummy french restaurant. the food was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! i loved the banana fondant dessert (banana is my favourite fruit!) ooh and our waiter looked like adam brody!!! :D :D :D

there's hockey on tv now. i shall go watch!

btw, that bird and jude law thing is WAY TOO GROSS FOR WORDS! eeps :S

yay!! the week looks promising! although i'm jobless, i will be spending lots of time hanging out with cool people and doing cool things. heh.

let's see. laos pre ex meeting tmr but before tt i'll be meeting ESTELLAAAAAAA limcheeli for tea! i hope it'll be fun! :):):) then sushi buffet with vanessa on tues! eat lost of chawanmushi......until we burst. then shopping and catching up with mak on wed, and dinner with mmb sarabird and tzing. woah. then thurs can rest and driving revision in the afternoon. yay yayy yay i kind of miss driving. it's so fun. if i dont get into near-accidents of course. and all of you out there, please pray that i dont get the fussy chinese guy AGAIN. i keep getting him!!!!!!!! it's a conspiracy i tell you. and then laos lesson plan dry run on friday. i'm so happy tt my week is quite packed. at least i wont get a chance to fall sick (hopefully. anyway, i cant fall sick while i'm still sick.) and waste time at home. exciting. plus, i can keep my mind off uni and scholarship stuff for awhile. which would be extremely beneficial for my mind.

so while ymw will be enjoying herself in canada (!!! ass, keep travelling.) i will have some fun with people in singapore.

goodnight :)

Saturday, May 06, 2006

take that bird! i won't bother finding hideous jay chou photos.

my first rally!

OOOoooooooooOOoooooooooooooooOooooOOooooooooooooooooooo
yesterday i went to attend my first rally (see above title) harhar actually it's a walkover in my constituency and in my ah mah's constituency but we went to listen to the aljunied one. surprisingly the rally was held in serangoon stadium. my ah mah's house is 20min walk from serangoon stadium. but my ah mah's area is considered marine parade. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. anyway it was quite fun in a weird sort of way. the stadium was completely packed! some ppl were very passionate abt what was being said. like they would suddenly stand up and scream "YES! THAT'S RIGHT!" haha well i was a passive listener. oh apparently erin saw me there. but i didn't see her.

anyway yesterday's med interview was horrid. i'm so glad it's over. the agony the agony. the first interview went entirely out of control :S and i hated having to agree with what the interviewers were saying just so we could move on to the next topic. then the second interview was supposed to be more relaxing. right.... they asked me abt GE. i'm sorry how exactly is it related to med school??? all in all. i crashed and burned.

oh munich was such a letdown. this month's sia movies kind of suck. the big movie of the month is *groan* king kong. shit show. luckily there's matchpoint. and cassanova. but it's a bloody long flight and 2 movies will not sustain meeeee! hmmm must pack now.

help!!

howw. howwwwww. howwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. HOW?!?!?!?!!!!!!!! i think sukuen and i just successfully confused each other further!

singapore. nus. ugly building. (yes this really matters to me cos i cant stand the fact that it is SO UGLY! they should like revamp the whole place. seriously. add more colour, more flowers. nicer people. or maybe just transport the whole university over to london. oh it would be perfect!) cheaper. no homesickness. doing sth i possibly might like.

overseas. FREE OMG FREE!!!! doing sth i possibly might not like.

so yes. common advice would be to do something i like. and i agree. but. i still feel so heartpain. like letting go of this once in a lifetime chance to experience life out of this place. i'm quite sure i'll never get such a chance again. but i dont want to end up selling my life away and doing something i'll hate for the rest of my life. yes it's not worth it to sign my life away for 4 years overseas. but... the irrational side of me will always surface. overseas, free, for goodness' sake. isnt this what i've always been dreaming of. but it's not what i really want. arghhhhhh. i'm driving myself nuts trying to think abt this day and night. and i dont get anywhere. :(

on a happier note, i'm going to ymw's house with shuching tmr!!! woohooo. i can learn how to play the drums! it'll be fun. :) heh. and ymw's got new weird friends. hee hee hee. (i always felt that 'hee hee hee' is such a sadistic laugh. HAHA) yay yay yayyyyy. no more staying at home having a blocked nose and sore throat! ok the blocked nose is still not gone but no more staying at home!! maybe i should find stuff to do ah. eh but my brain's completely occupied with electrical and electronic engineering now. i think i might even dream of it. YUCK.

yucky. i cant believe that people actually think he's hot! hahah oh well. i have unique taste. :)

here's a clue where i'm going to be next week:

ROCKS AND TREES by the arrogant worms

My country's bigger than most
And if asked i boast
'cause i'm really proud
So i shout it loud
Though our numbers are few
We will welcome you

Although we don't have history
Gold medal winning teams
Heroes or prisoners
World famous volcanoes
Still what we've got's glorious

'cause we've got......

Rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks
And rocks and trees
And trees and rocks

And...................
waterrrr!!

haha can you guesssssss??? canada! you should really listen to the actual song cos it's impossibly spastic (as you can prob guess from the lyrics). due to my limited IT skills i will be unable to post the song :(

i've recently spent a lot of time watching whose line is it anyway clips. it's like THE BEST SHOW EVER!! will also check out the ellen show cos i heard it's a hoot! plus i watched a very cute clip of jude law on the ellen show :D :D :D

Monday, May 01, 2006

haha. ok. no nothing has happened to me! i'm fine, really. it's not what you think :)

on a side note. i am a little bit sad over something else. but nvm, it's not worth it :)

and. sarabird and i FINALLY highlighted our hair (hairs?!) today!! it's kind of orangey. but it's supposed to be red. oh well. i shall do brown next time. still my colour after all..!
